WHAT DOESN'T KILL ME MAKES ME STRONGER

Pedro De La Vega • Aug 08, 2020

What do you make of this statement ? Does it sound like the truth ? Do you agree?  We can argue that sometimes what doesn't kill you can still hurt a lot...

This saying is attributed to the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche(1844-1900), mentioned in his book "Twilight of the Idols" (1888).

In general, we hear "what does not kill me makes me stronger" as a synonym for resilience. A way to recover from a bad situation and toughen up in order to face again the challenges of life, stronger, better armed and more determined than ever.

But Nietzsche did not mean that.

If what does not kill him makes him stronger, it is because suffering is, in the eyes of the philosopher, a tool of knowledge .

In fact, Nietzsche takes suffering as an opportunity to develop ingenuity , valour and curiosity .

For him, we should not wait for the pain to be gone to live again and feel strong. Life can be enjoyed even during the adversity.

On a lighter note, I have to confess that I wrote that post listening to Kelly Clarkson and I feel so pump up so I invite you to do the same  ðŸ¤£ðŸ˜‚ 🤣😂 !
